Northern Lights Series
The Northern Lights have always felt mythological to me as someone who’s lived in the Southwest most of their life. So, imagine my delight when one evening they lit up the sky right over our house in Minneapolis! It was pretty neat. Weirdly, the photos we all took brought out the colors even more than the naked eye could see, so it looks even cooler in the pics than it did IRL. I wanted to make a Northern Lights piece, and spent many hours sketching and working through designs that could capture the color and interest of the lights. I ended up with what you see below and found some great glass that incorporated the blues, greens, and pinks that I was after. I used dichroic glass balls for some twinkling stars, and soldered wire onto the design to incorporate some of the banding that we see in the Northern Lights.
One piece was donated to an auction supporting a local school, and as of writing this, there is still one available in the shop. Please reach if out you’re interested in a commissioned Northern Lights piece.
